César Chávez: An American Hero

César Chávez Activities for Teachers & Students. With Cesar Chavez Day just effectually the corner (recognized on March 31), I have developed several César Chávez activities that are easy for teachers and fun (and meaningful) for students. These activities include my collaborative poster, unscramble activities, and coloring page featuring a quote by Chávez.

This year, special attention is being paid to Cesar Chavez as a new pic is being released depicting his life spent organizing and fighting for equality for migrant laborers through non-violent means. The movie, Cesar Chavez: History is Made One Footstep at a Time, stars Michael Pena and John Malkovich, was directed past Diego Luna and is enjoying support from Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg.

Recently President Obama hosted a screening of the motion-picture show at the White House and began his introduction with these remarks :

Obama

"Welcome to the White Firm.  We are here to celebrate the life of an American hero.  Cesar Chavez was a man who devoted this brief time that nosotros take on Earth to making sure that this country lived up to some of its lofty ethics, the words of our founding, the thought that all of us are created equal — a man who organized others to widen the circle of opportunity not just for the people he knew, simply for future generations."

Now is the perfect time to explore the life's work of César Chávez.  To help teachers gloat this important homo I take created several César Chávez Activities.

Cesar Chavez Activeness: Collaborative Portrait Poster

The perfect way to celebrate César Chávez Day is with my large collaborative portrait of Mr. Chávez which is washed collaboratively by your entire class. Each student in your class gets 1 folio of the affiche to color (English language and Spanish included). The pieces are then cut out and the poster is assembled to reveal a large portrait of César Chávez.

This poster comes complete with his famous slogan, in both an English version (Yes We Tin!) and a Spanish version (¡Si Se Puede!).

Poster Details: There are 35 pieces in my affiche and each piece fits on eight.5″ 10 11″ standard copy newspaper. The finished poster makes a 5 x seven grid (that is approx. 35" x 49").  Your verbal affiche size will depend on your printer settings. Some teachers like to show their students what they will exist making, and others like to keep it a hugger-mugger until the terminate for a really fun surprise! My poster is a great supplement/complement to whatever César Chávez lesson you are educational activity or celebration your grade is having.
